First person was mainly a tech test I was doing, but it’ll be used for things like point like shadows behind the scenes if I can optimize it heavily
It’s raytracing voxel data on the GPU, every 1 pixel in game is 1 voxel. In 1st person mode, look at the size of the white lines. That is one voxel. This scene has millions - so it’s pretty slow (30-40fps average and drops even less when loading data at 1080p, but i get a full 60fps all the time at 1/2 or 1/4 that resolution on my machine).
I’ve also implemented a similar thing in the games editor so that you can make pixel art in 3d voxels. I’ll show that off when it’s ready too.
If this first person mode still looks cool I’ll add it as a little easter egg in the game but it won’t be anything serious. It would be pretty damn cool though.
